Response to CoViD 19
CoViD 19 has impacted our kids!
Because of CoViD 19, school is out and Waterloo Region's children living with severe food insecurity are struggling to access food. Many of their parents are out of work and funds to survive have been depleted.
Food4Kids Waterloo Region has been called on to help in a larger and more sustained way than ever before.
The week of March break we provided daily food (groceries) for 167 children aged 1 - 14 identified as extremely food insecure. We also provided long weekend food for 412 children. We never imagined what has befallen all of us. Following March break we jumped into action and provided full groceries to the extremely food insecure families and provided grocery cards for the families that would take them until April 3, 2020.
This week all of the severely food insecure children we provide for, 600 children, have crossed over into an extreme situation. Inbound help calls are being received by all agencies, and ours is being called on by our families to help however we can. We are making outbound calls to all of our families to understand their need and to create a plan of action to provide. We will not put our volunteers and staff at risk, so the plan has to ensure we are responsible to them and to our children.
We need financial support.
With the help of our community we can ensure our children are fed - giving them the nutritious support they so desperately need.
Thank you and please be safe. Practice social distancing.
