We have many wonderful year-round opportunities and ways to get involved here at Food4Kids Waterloo Region.

 

Depending on your availability and interest, the majority of our  work is done Monday to Friday during the daytime, however, there is a regular evening opportunity, as well as some occasional weekend events and individual ways to get involved.

Fall / Winter 2021/22 Opportunities

Volunteer food delivery drivers are needed to help feed local children living with chronic hunger all school year long. We need to fill many delivery routes EVERY FRIDAY during the school year.  Join our fleet of volunteer drivers delivering much needed nutritious food - including fresh fruits and vegetables - to the 870 children we serve.

THE JOB
You will be assigned a route and deliver food - using your own vehicle -  to schools across Waterloo Region. Contact-free curbside pick ups from our office at 10 Washburn Drive Unit #4 Kitchener. Lifting up to 30 lbs. COVID Protocol In Place: Mandatory masks + social distancing + Screening.

 

WHO CAN DO IT? 

This is a meaningful activity for people of all ages.

FOOD BIN DELIVERIES TO THE SCHOOLS* 
Weekend Program September - June - Friday Mornings 9:00 – 10:00 am start (Thursdays on PA Day weeks) Takes approx. 1 – 1 ½ hrs depending on the route. Deliveries must be at the schools by 11:30 am

We require a Police Check if you are delivering food to our schools. Information will be provided.

SPECIAL BREAK PROGRAMS - BIN DELIVERIES / SET UP / BIN PACKING
School Break Food Bin Deliveries.  We deliver bins of groceries (schools & homes) weekly during the 12 weeks of school breaks including:  Winter Break, March Break & Summer Breaks. Many volunteers are needed to make this happen.  We also require on-site volunteers for set up, bins packing, etc. throughout the week.  We require a Police Check for delivery drivers. 

PACK LINE SET UP CREW

There is a great deal of prep work, and set up/clean up involved in these programs. All the work is done year-round during the days prior to the deliveries including sorting counting, lifting, etc. During the school year this happens on Wednesdays and Thursday mornings. In the summer this happens on Mondays and Tuesdays. 

SPECIAL EVENT ASSISTANCE

Food4Kids Waterloo Region Ambassadors are sometimes needed to represent us by attending special events such as farmer's markets, golf or baseball tournaments, car washes, BBQs, concerts, dances, etc. The roles and duties vary depending on the event and are often on weekends or weeknights.  Teens 14+ may be suitable for some of these positions.  

SPECIAL PROJECTS   

We are currently looking for:
- Translators to help us better communicate with our families. 

- Fundraising Assistants 

- New Officers for our Board of Directors

Snapshots of Our Regular Opportunities

WEEKDAYS- FOOD BAGGING
“Baggers” Wednesday  9:30 – 11:30 am – AND 1:00 - 3:00 (Tuesdays on short weeks) Working as a team of 12- 15 portioning bulk food items into individual bags of food for our kids. (cereal, bread, carrots, etc)  

EVENINGS - PACKING FOOD BAGS  
Working as a team in a large food assembly line putting all the contents of our Weekend Food Bags into one bag per child. These events are booked in advance. Approx 15 people required.

Please note: Only children 12 years and older are suitable for volunteering positions.
