​Call for Board Members for Food4Kids Waterloo Region Are you looking to join a Board of Directors of a dynamic organization that impacts the lives of children living with chronic hunger in the Waterloo Region?

 

Food4Kids Waterloo Region is making an open call for individuals to sit on our Board of Directors. You would be part of a dynamic team of community members in support of Food4Kids Waterloo Region.  Board terms are two years with a maximum of two consecutive terms (or four years).

Multilingual Translators - 26 languages


-Are you multilingual and want to make a difference in a child’s life by providing food security?  
-Do you have a passion for helping vulnerable kids in our community?  
If so, we have the volunteer position  for you!

 

Food4Kids Waterloo Region provides packages of healthy food for children ages 1 – 14 living with chronic hunger in severely food insecure homes, during weekend periods, and winter, spring and summer breaks from school.  We currently serve 886 children living in the Region of Waterloo, and are growing.  Our program is funded through corporate and individual donations, fundraising and grants, and with the dedication and passion of our volunteers and staff.  Without our remarkable and passionate volunteers, Food4Kids Waterloo Region would not exist. 

 

We are currently seeking Volunteer Translators who can help us complete surveys to gather information and collect data from our families. This will help justify our program's need to donors and allow us to build capacity to serve more children living with food insecurity in the Region of Waterloo.

 

Languages desired are:

English, Arabic, Tigrinya, Rohingya, Spanish, Somalian, Dari, Chin and Nepali.    

Responsibilities:
°Helping to translate hard copy surveys from English into native language.
°Contacting families and completing telephone survey questions in the family’s native language.
°Translating the responses from telephone and hard copy survey questions to English, ensuring to preserve the °original meaning.
°In some cases, corresponds with families on behalf of Food4Kids Waterloo Region.
°Consults with Food4Kids Waterloo Region staff to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately.

Qualifications:
°Native or advanced written and verbal language skills in English and a second language required.
°Detail-oriented, with high levels of accuracy.
°Responsive to communication from Food4Kids Waterloo Region staff.
°Ability to work according to mutually established deadlines.
°Must be friendly, open, reliable, patient, non-judgmental and non-discriminating.

This volunteer position starts in April 2022 and is for 4 or more hours (depending on your availability) per week and may be in office or remote.  This position does not attract a salary, but every effort will be made by the team to help you learn new skills, gain valuable and rewarding experience and make new friends.

Fundraising Volunteers
We are currently seeking Fundraising Volunteers to help us build capacity to serve more children living with food insecurity in the Region of Waterloo. We are looking for volunteers to support across different areas including community and individual fundraising, grants, service clubs, foundations, events and more. Enthusiasm and commitment is more important than experience, but you’ll need to be a great communicator, able to work independently and be passionate about making a difference.

What you may be doing (some or all, we can work with you):
*Work with us to help develop and maintain support and planning of initiatives

*Help manage the fundraising and donor database and support the fundraising team
*Assist in the research of partner organizations
*Development of fundraising opportunities and other fundraising initiatives
*Assist in the development and management of fundraising database, helping update records and administrative duties

What you may bring (some or all, we can teach/train you):
*Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills
*Ability to work flexibly in a team with enthusiasm and commitment
*Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, internet, Google Docs, contact databases and other computer programs
*Interest in serving Food4Kids Waterloo Region’s mission and values

This volunteer position is for 4-8 hours (or more if you are willing) per week and may be in office or remote. This position does not attract a salary, but every effort will be made by the team to help you learn new skills, gain valuable and rewarding experience, make new friends and have fun.
